▪ Marine Corps Birthday Celebration — 6 p.m. VFW Post 805, 221 W. First St., O’Fallon. Cash bar and appetizers at 6 p.m. Dinner at 6:30 p.m. followed by a ceremony at 7:15 p.m. One highlight is the celebration of Bob Shultz, 100 years old, who is one of the new remaining World War II Marines still alive today. Every adult is invited who follows the Marine Corps Detachment #74 philosophy of assisting veterans and other individuals in need. Casual dress. ▪ O’Fallon Veterans Monument Veterans Day Event — 11 a.m. First Baptist Church, 111 E. Highway 50, O’Fallon. The City of O’Fallon will hold a Veterans Day observance. The guest speaker will be Maj. Gen. Vincent Barker, USA, chief of staff, USTRANSCOM. There will be participation from Robert C. Cummings, Col. (ret.), USAF; the OTHS AFJROTC; and Miss O’Fallon Natalie Hale, in addition to others. The names of the newly-inscribed veterans will be introduced at this time. Pre-service music will begin at 10:45 a.m. Veterans are encouraged to wear their medals and decorations that day.

▪ Illinois Trekkers ‘Honoring Our Veterans’ Walk — 9-11 a.m. (Registration). June’s Patio + Breakfast, 430 S. Main St., Shiloh. Parking available at Corpus Christi Catholic Church, 205 Rasp St., Shiloh. Available distances: 5K, 10K, 20K. On the walk you will see the new Freedom Rock created by artist Ray Sorenson II. The Freedom Rock provides unique murals highlighting area military history as a way to thank those who have served our country. You will also walk to the September 11 Memorial at Shiloh Community Park representing police, firefighters, first responders and military personnel. In addition you may also walk through Englemann Farm created as a county park with a paved walking trail. George Engelmann grew plants on his farm for the Missouri Botanical Garden. You may walk through the cemetery on Main Street with graves dating back to 1814. Also, be on the lookout for the “Peppermint” Water Tower which was built in 1978 and stands 145 feet tall. This free course is designed to give drivers – especially senior citizens and persons with disabilities – the knowledge and confidence needed to renew or obtain a drivers license.
