Elizabeth Jeanine van Suffelen, nee Bowling, 84, of O’Fallon, formerly of Morgan City, La., born Nov. 24, 1931, in Columbus, Miss., passed away Tuesday, Dec. 1, at Cedar Ridge Healthcare & Rehab in Lebanon from complications with pneumonia.

Everyone who knew Elizabeth called her Jeanine. She was an active member of Crossview Independent Assembly of God Church and a Senior Bible study teacher at O’Fallon Assembly of God. She loved the Lord. Jeanine attended Mississippi State College for Women and Nicholls State University in Thibodaux, La., earning a Bachelor’s Degree in Music. She taught piano for more than 30 years. Jeanine was an amateur Egyptologist and made several trips to Egypt so she could study the culture and visit the ruins.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Henk van Suffelen, a native of Delft, Holland, in 1985; her parents, Dewey and Irene Bowling; and her brother, Dewey Bowling.

Surviving are her children, Jeanie Hood of O’Fallon and Hendrick van Suffelen of Carencro, La.; and her grandchildren, Colten Hood, Shaughn, Rick and CJ.

Memorial donations are suggested, in lieu of flowers and other gifts, to Christ Gospel Church of Patterson, La., to support various mission programs and will be accepted at the funeral home. People may extend their condolences to the family by visiting www.wfh-ofallon.com.

Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Friday, Dec. 4, at Wolfersberger Funeral Home, 102 W. Washington St., O’Fallon.

Funeral services and burial will be in Morgan City, La., under the direction of Twin City Funeral Home in Morgan City, La.

Wolfersberger Funeral Home is handling the local arrangements.
