Assorted tidbits of local interest

Extending appreciation ... Students in Adelita Robert's first grade class and Michelle Hamby's second grade class at Marie Schaefer Elementary school expressed their appreciation to the city's First Responders by decorating placemats with scenes depicting many of the activities performed by police, fire and emergency personnel. The placemats were put to good use at the O'Fallon Woman's Club Ninth Annual Red, White, & Blue Breakfast to honor these First Responders. The breakfast was held Thursday, March 10 at the O’Fallon Safety Center on Seven Hills Road.

Knights of Columbus

The O’Fallon Knights of Columbus and Ladies Auxiliary will sponsor its weekly fish fry from 4-8 p.m., Friday, at the K of C Hall, located at 402 E. Highway 50, across from the City Park. The traditional menu of fried cod and blue gill will be available, along with numerous side dishes. Baked cod has also been added to the menu. Dine in or carry out is available. Orders can be called in at 632-6229. Lunch is also available from 11 a.m.-1 p.m.

O’Fallon VFW Post 805

O’Fallon VFW Post 805, 221 W. First Street, and its Ladies Auxiliary will hold a fish fry from 4 to 8 p.m., Friday. Dine-in or call 624-2651 for carry-out.

‘Starting Over’

“Starting Over”— a six-part non-denominational support group for men and women adjusting to a widowed lifestyle — will hold its final session from 2-4 p.m., Sunday, at the National Shrine of the Snows, 442 S. De Mazenod Drive, Belleville. “Starting Over” provides an opportunity to help those experiencing the loss of a spouse to move from sorrow and sense of loss, to acceptance and reconciliation with a new way of life. The St. Clair County Extension and Education Foundation Board will hold its third annual Taste of the Area Friday, April 1, from 5- 8 p.m. at the Regency Conference Center at 400 Regency Park in O’Fallon. Ward 3 meeting

O'Fallon Ward 3 Aldermen Kevin Hagarty and Jerry Mouser will hold a town hall meeting for Ward 3 residents on April 19 6:30 p.m. This meeting will be held at O'Fallon City Hall located at 255 South Lincoln Ave. St. Clair County Board member John West will be the guest speaker. He will give a presentation on property taxes.

Fish fries

The O’Fallon Knights of Columbus and Ladies Auxiliary typically sponsor a fish fry from 4 to 8 p.m. every Friday at the K of C Hall, 402 E. Highway 50. Orders may be called in at 632-6229. Lunch also is available from 11 a.m.to 1 p.m. Fridays. The local O’Fallon council is very active in the community donating money to various organizations while also sponsoring local events for the community, such as an annual spelling bee, soccer challenge and free throw contest.

All Pro Dad program

The All Pro Dad program meets at 8 a.m. the last Saturday of each month at Cornerstone Christian Church, 775 N. Green Mount Rd., Shiloh. The meetings are open to all and a $5 Chick-Fil-A breakfast will be served. People should RSVP to www.allprodad.com/4368 so enough food can be provided. DJ Ficken (APD leader at Moye School) and Tom Vorce (APD leader at Laverna Evans School) lead the chapter.

Wolfersberger Funeral Home at 102 W. Washington St. in O’Fallon is a designated collection site for Cell Phones for Soldiers. Used cell phones may be dropped off at the funeral home during regular business hours or by appointment by calling 632-3681.

O’Fallon Garden Club offers free tours

Come play in the dirt with the O’Fallon Garden Club at its weekly garden work days from 8-11 a.m. Monday and Thursday mornings through September at the Community Garden at the corner of State and Smiley Streets. The Garden Club would love to have people who can help with general garden work. The group will meet weather permitting. Remember to wear comfortable clothing and shoes. Tools are provided, but volunteers are encouraged to bring their own work gloves and water. Gardening is an excellent exercise alternative and everyone’s efforts will benefit the community by beautifying the town and supplying fresh vegetables to the area.
