Around Town — Faith Lutheran to hold concert series

No more lines at the bathroom...recently erected is an additional restroom Shiloh’s Three Springs Park, near the tennis and basketball courts. The project contract is between Illinois American Water Company and Holland Construction for the amount of $235,900. Holland Superintendent Dennis Frerker said the work began in early March, and the building and exterior work will be complete by beginning of May. Village of Shiloh Engineer Norm Etling said, the village still has to contract out for the interior finishing work, which doesn’t have a finish date slated as of yet. “This is a good example of a private, public partnership to save customer and taxpayer funds by working together.”

O’Fallon Dania Shrine Club

The O’Fallon Dania Shrine Club will be holding their annual fundraiser the Pre-Derby Horse Race Night. Doors open at 6 p.m. with races beginning at 7 p.m., at the Knights of Columbus Hall at 5420 Old Collinsville Road in O’Fallon. Draft beer and soft drinks will be provided. There will be a cash bar and food available for purchase. Cost is $20 per person. There will be silent and live auctions with many items to choose from. As this event is a week before the Kentucky Derby, we will be having a bonnet contest. Proceeds will be used for Shriner’s charities and its building restoration fund. Faith Lutheran Church Concert series

Faith Lutheran Church Concert will present Chapter 6 Vocal Band Concert at 7 p.m. at 520 E Hwy 50 in O’Fallon. This a Capella group presents an energetic show featuring tight harmonies and vocal fireworks. Freewill offerings will be taken and refreshments will be served following the performance. St. Clare Catholic Church Chorale

The Masterworks Chorale will perform Haydn's "Lord Nelson Mass" at 3 p.m. May 1 at St. Clare Catholic Church, located at 1411 Cross St. in Shiloh. Tickets cost adults $15 or $20 at the door; seniors and military members cost $10 or $15 at the door; and, students are $5 or $10 at the door. Free Monday Night Community Meals

Free hot meals are served restaurant-style from 5-6:30 p.m., each Monday night at Faith Lutheran Church, 510 East Highway 50 in O'Fallon in the Fellowship Hall. Educational workshop

Ever wondered what in the world to do with a child? Not because they are a bad child or even a defiant child, but because there is something maybe a little different and little bit more challenging about this child. Faith Lutheran Church is offering a free educational opportunity for those interacting with challenging children at 7 p.m. Everyone is welcome. Kris Fulkerson, LCSW, MS Clinical Director for HeartlinksGrief Center and Owner/Counselor for Coping 4 Kids will present strategies, skills and tools for those dealing witha challenging child. She will also explore how to get started if your child doesn’t have a diagnosis, but you suspect they might have a mental health issue.

O’Fallon Garden Club

The O’Fallon Garden Club will hold its regular monthly meeting at 6 p.m.. at Rock Springs Park cabin, located at 1428 E. Third Street. Guest speaker Leo Welch will present ‘Plants that change the world,’ for members and guests to learn which plants pay the important role in our food and medical production, as well as understanding of their impact on society. Book sale

The Annual Mega Book Sale will be held at the O’Fallon Public Library May 5-9. The sale will be held 2 to 8 p.m. on May 5; 9 a.m.-5 p.m. on May 6; 9 a.m.-4 p.m. on May 7; 1-5 p.m. on May 8; and, 9 a.m.-8 p.m. on May 9. Admission is free. There will be a large selection of gently used books, DVDs, audio books and CDs available. Author to speak

O’Fallon Township High School (OTHS) welcomes Molly Venzke, of Seattle, Wash., author of ‘Caged No More,’ a book about human trafficking that was later made into a movie. Venzke will be presenting several times at the OTHS Smiley and Milburn campuses to bring awareness and education to the students about human trafficking, how to recognize it, and most importantly, how to prevent it. Later that evening, O’Fallon Public Library is sponsoring a community-wide question and answer event at the Milburn campus as well.

Enjoy Church

Altogether Beautiful, the women’s ministry of Enjoy Church, presents “Friendship is a Gift” starting at 7 p.m. on Friday, May 6 at Enjoy Church O’Fallon, located at 251 Regency Park in O’Fallon. Dinner is provided, and the event’s festivities will include a time of teaching, and entertainment.

The O’Fallon Township Senior Committee will hold a dinner at 5:30 p.m. May 19 at the O’Fallon Township Building, located at 801 East State St. in O’Fallon. Entertainment will be provided. All O’Fallon Township residents are invited to attend. Cost is $3 per person. Tickets are available at the township office. The last day to buy tickets is May 13.

Food Pantry golf scramble

The 20th Annual Pete MacLaughlin Memorial Food Pantry Golf Scramble will begin with check in at noon, and tee off at 1 p.m. The event will be held at The Hills Golf Club at McKendree University in Lebanon. Cost is $65.

Memorial Day program

The City of O’Fallon will hold its annual Memorial Day Program at the O’Fallon Veterans’ Monument, 737 East Wesley Drive, O’Fallon. The guest speaker will be Brigadier General Randall Reed, USAF, Deputy Director, Strategic Plans, HQ, AMC. Participants will include the First Baptist Church of O’Fallon Adult Choir; OTHS AFJ ROTC; VFW Post 805; Miss Lauren Lundy, St Louis Opera Theatre; Craig Bedard, SMSgt, USAF (Ret); the USAF Honor Guard Rifle Team, among many others. The names of 28 newly-inscribed veterans will be introduced at this time. The program will commence at 11:30 a.m. Patriotic music selections will begin at approximately 11:20 a.m. Veterans are encouraged to wear their medals and decorations that day. Please bring your own lawn chairs & drinks. In case of inclement weather, the ceremony will be held at The First Baptist Church of O’Fallon, 1111 East Highway 50, O’Fallon.
