East St. Louis man sentenced to 65 years for housing complex murder
An East St. Louis man was sentenced to 65 years in prison for the shooting death of a Shiloh man last year.
Willie J. Brown, 26, was found guilty of the first-degree murder of Tyree Smith by a St. Clair County jury in May.
Brown was accused of shooting Tyree Smith, 39, of Shiloh, in the head and chest with a gun on Feb. 4, 2015.
Smith was shot at the Samuel Gompers housing complex in the 400 block of North Sixth Street in East St. Louis.
The case was investigated by the Illinois State Police.
St. Clair County Assistant State’s Attorney Deb Phillips prosecuted the case.
Circuit Judge Robert Haida presided over the trial and imposed sentence on June 30.
