Youth interested in playing basketball can register at the Scott Youth Center through Oct. 31. Ages range from 5-16 years old (as of December 2016). Register by Oct. 15 to get $5 off registration fees. Cost is $50 Members and $70 Non-members. Volunteers are needed to sign-up as coaches. Mandatory training is provided for all volunteers plus $50 towards a child’s next sport enrollment fee. October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month. Please join Family Advocacy and the Chaplain Corps for its 3rd Annual Domestic Violence Lunch-n-Learn from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Oct. 14 at the Base Chapel. McAlister’s Deli will provide free lunch and the event also will include informational/resource tables and give-a-ways available. Learning to play golf is more fun with a partner. So people should grab their ignificant other, friend, family member or neighbor and join the Cardinal Creek Golf Course for their two-day Friday Night Twosome Golf Class on Oct. 14 and 28. Beginning at 5:30 p.m. each day, the PGA professional staff at Cardinal Creek Golf Course will instruct golfers on various aspects of the golf game. After the lesson, people can take their newly acquired golf skills out on the course for a little twilight golf. Class fee is only $5 per person which covers both sessions (a $50 Value). The final yard sale of the season will be from 8 a.m.- noon Oct. 15 outside at the ALS picnic pavilion. Sign-up to sell or come take a look around at the yard sale. The cost is $15, which includes one display table, two chairs, set-up/break down of display area … vendors keep all profits. Deadline to sign-up is noon Oct. 14. Reservations can be made over the phone or in person. For more details call 256-2067.


Canoe through a cypress-tupelo swamp in Illinois? Yes, it exits. Come with the Outdoor Adventure Program on Oct. 15 as they explore the Bottom Land Swamp area of Cache River State Natural Area. Paddle six miles through rivers, swamps and ponds; all surrounded by hundred year old cypress trees and multitudes of bird species. Bring along a sack lunch, snacks and water. Dinner will follow (which people must pay for). Adventure is open to all (ages 14+). Adventure fee: $15. Buses will depart Outdoor Recreation, Bldg. 3176, at 8 a.m., returning around 7:30 p.m. Registration required. Anyone under 18 must be accompanied by an adult. Sign-up for Youth Program’s upcoming American Red Cross Babysitting Class held Oct. 17-19. This six-hour hands-on course is a fun way for youth to learn proper babysitting procedures. Many topics will be covered, such as feeding, bedtime, emergency procedures and more. This three-day class will be from 4-6 p.m. Oct. 17-19. Registration required.

Due to low attorney manning and mission requirements, the Scott Air Force Base Legal Office will not offer walk-in Legal Assistance on Tuesday or Thursday and will not draft Wills on Wednesdays for the two-week period of Oct. 17-28. Emergency service will be provided by calling the legal office at 256-3542. Clients may still walk in for customer service from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Monday-Friday for powers of attorney and notary services.
