AUG. 10

ODR CARDBOARD BOAT REGATTA

Outdoor Recreation’s Annual Boat Regatta will take place at 11 a.m. Aug. 10 at the Fitness Center Pool. Squadrons/organizations/groups (all base affiliates military and civilian) are asked to form a team of at least two, to participate in the Regatta for chances to win prizes (FSS gift cards). Prizes awarded to the top three boats with the fastest teams, plus the following categories: “Most Creative Design”; “Best Dressed Team/Support Staff” (get the whole office or group involved with the costumes); and the “Dramatic Fastest Sinking Boat.”

Teams must provide both a team name and boat name upon registration. Teams are responsible for the cost and construction of their boats. Note: Boats must be preconstructed entirely of “corrugated” cardboard and duct tape, and in place by 10:30 a.m. the day of event. Preinspection of the fleet will be at this time. Patrons must be 16 and older to participate and members of the crew must be able to swim. Register with Outdoor Recreation today. FREE TRICK SHOT PERFORMANCE BY AARON MANSFIELD AT CARDINAL CREEK

The famous Aaron Mansfield will display his talents in golf trick shots at 10 a.m. Aug. 11 at Cardinal Creek Golf Course. Mansfield’s show has been seen by many ... he has performed for Phil Mickelson and at many charity golf events. This free show is open to the entire base community. “Getting to know our military men and women personally throughout the event and having the opportunity to be amongst the heroes of our nation, it would be an honor and privilege to be in their presence,” said Mansfield. PARENT/CHILD GOLF TOURNAMENT

Cardinal Creek Golf Course will host a parent/child golf tournament Aug. 11. The event begins with lunch at 11 a.m. followed by a shotgun start at noon. Cost is $65 per team for daily players, $45 per team for AGF Members. Fee includes greens fees, cart, range balls, lunch and prizes. Tournament is open to all; registration required. FALL TUNE-UP KICK-OFF TOURNAMENT

Stars & Strike Bowling Center will host their Fall Tune-Up Kick-Off Tournament at 2 p.m. Aug. 11. Come out and compete in a 9-Pin No-Tap Tournament for a chance to win door prizes and more. There will be separate divisions for men and women. Bowlers will bowl three games. The highest series in each division will be our Fall Tune-Up Kick-Off winners. BACK 2 SCHOOL BRUNCH

Join the Scott Event Center for Back 2 School Brunch with free school supplies from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Aug. 12. Enjoy the Event Center’s breakfast and lunch items, as well a complimentary bar featuring Mimosas, Bloody Marys and more. Walk-ins welcome, reservations suggested. MOBILE DMV

People who need to renew their license plate stickers, but can’t make it to the DMV can catch the Illinois Department of Motor Vehicles mobile unit from 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Aug. 15 at the Scott Event Center. The DMV Mobile Unit offers basic vehicle services, such as driver license renewals (including road tests), ID cards and vehicle registration, and is available for the SAFB community every third Wednesday of the month. The mobile DMV accepts all major credit/debit cards, check and money orders, cash is not an accepted payment. For more details, call 256-5501.

XTREME TACTICAL LASER TAG REGISTRATION DEADLINE

Get ready for a challenging night of outdoor Xtreme Tactical Laser Tag with Outdoor Recreation from 5-9 p.m. Aug. 17. Hunt down “frienemies” through thick woods and underground tunnels on multiple missions. Registration deadline is Aug. 15.

▪ RecOn eligible: Open to AF active duty/Reservists and their dependents. SAFB must be duty station for non-AF service members. A person eligible for RecOn can bring one person for same price while spots available; and

SCOTT LAKE CAMPING TRIP REGISTRATION DEADLINE

The Youth Center is offering an overnight camping trip to the Scott Lake Aug. 17-18. Tents and food provided. Sleeping bags, flashlights, bug spray and toiletries required. CARDINAL’S QUEST ESCAPE ROOM REGISTRATION DEADLINE

Come try a new team building experience, Cardinal’s Quest: StL Mastermind Room Escape, from 6:30-9:30 p.m. Aug. 24. This escape room is perfect for St. Louis Cardinals Baseball fans. Rooms are fully interactive. People can wear their favorite Cardinals jersey and unravel the clues to solve the mystery and escape the room. Register by Aug. 21.

UNDERGROUND KAYAK REGISTRATION DEADLINE

Join Outdoor Recreation on their popular trip to Crystal City Underground for a three-hour underground kayaking tour Aug. 25. Trip requires one tight passageway, and is not suitable for claustrophobic individuals. Lunch afterwards (individual’s cost). Difficulty rating: 3/5. Registration deadline is Aug. 22.

SUMMER COUPLES SERIES

Grab a golf partner and get ready for the new Summer Couples Tournament Aug. 24. Couples will enjoy a night of fun golf, dining, drinks and friends while experiencing Cardinal Creek at its finest. Tournament date is as follows: Aug. 24. Event limited to the first 36 teams. Tournament fee is $60 per couple and includes 9-holes of golf with cart, range balls and prizes and dinner on the patio. BACK 2 SCHOOL LOCK-IN

ARCHERY CLINIC REGISTRATION DEADLINE

Learn the basics of archery from 5-7 p.m. Aug. 29 with Outdoor Recreation. Staff will teach correct stance, proper use of recurve bow or compound bow, and proper shooting techniques. Bows, arrows and instruction provided. Registration deadline is Aug. 27.

DIVE-IN MOVIE NIGHT

An end of summer bash will take place from 7:30-10:30 p.m. Aug. 30 at the Fitness Pool. Bring family, friends and guests to swim and watch “Finding Nemo.” Rate: $2/person. Movie starts at dusk. No outside flotation devices allowed. Deep end and slide closed during event. Registration deadline is Aug. 30. Open to all ages. Under age 18 must be accompanied by an adult. YP NEWCOMERS ORIENTATION

New to Scott AFB? Parents and children are invited to come check out the Youth Center at their YP Newcomers Orientation scheduled for 6-8 p.m. Aug. 31. The Youth Center will highlight all the core areas they offer on a daily basis. For more information, call 256-5139.

ADDITIONAL THINGS TO DO ON BASE

BOWLING 2.0 CLASSES

This exciting program is designed to introduce or reintroduce people to bowling. This class meets once a week for four weeks and covers the fundamentals of bowling. Topics include approach, markings, grip, lane courtesy, spare shooting and much more. People who complete the class will be ready to bowl in the Bowling 2.0 league (optional). Cost is $40 per person. JUNIOR LEAGUES ‘SIGN UP’ DAYS

Fall Junior Leagues are now forming and the Stars & Strikes Bowling Center has planned some special “sign-up” days from noon to 3 p.m. Aug. 11 and 18. Kids will have the opportunity to register for the fall leagues plus enjoy free hot dogs, free bowling, some great door prizes and more. The junior league is played Saturday mornings. LITTLE LINKSTERS START SMART GOLF LESSONS

Parents participate in this adult and child (ages 4-8 years old) combination class. Start Smart teaches parents how to teach kids the basics of golf. Start Smart uses a unique line of fun and developmentally appropriate equipment designed by SNAG Golf products. Lessons available from 11 a.m. to noon Sundays from Aug. 12-30. KIDS CRUMBS & CANVAS

Kids: Want to have a painting party too? Join the Arts & Crafts Center for painting and snacks. The following dates and themes are planned:

These will be at the Arts & Crafts Center. Cost is $15 per person and includes all painting supplies. Bring own snacks and soft drinks/water. NIGHTINGALE DINING FACILITY CLOSED FOR RENOVATIONS

The Nightingale Dining Facility is closed until approximately Dec. 1 in preparation for the newest Quality of Life Initiative, Food 2.0. This major renovation will transform the way they serve meal card holders and the entire Scott community. Food 2.0 facilitates a “campus dining” approach similar to colleges and universities, while eliminating eligibility and rank limitations. The goal of this new initiative is to expand food options for meal card holders and the entire Scott AFB community.
