SEPT. 3

LABOR DAY SCRAMBLE

The Cardinal Creek Golf Course will host a Labor Day Golf Scramble Sept. 3, with a shotgun start at 9 a.m. This is a four-person scramble at $35 per AGF member and $45 for a daily player. The fee includes greens fees, cart, range balls and prizes. Space is limited to the first 18 teams so sign up early. To register, stop by the Golf Pro Shop or call (618) 744-1400. SEPT. 5

INDOOR ROCK CLIMB REGISTRATION DEADLINE

Conquer the walls at Upper Limits Rock Climbing gym Sept. 7. This trip is for active climbers or ones with no experience. Learn how to climb in a safe, exciting environment. Enjoy two hours of climbing, with equipment, orientation and harness rental for the entire group. Registration deadline is Sept. 5.

▪ RecOn eligible: Open to AF active duty/Reservists and their dependents. SAFB must be duty station for non-AF service members. A person eligible for RecOn can bring one person for same price while spots available;

▪ RecOn rate: $15. Normal rate: $25; and

▪ Time: 6-10 p.m.

BASE CAMP AT SCOTT LAKE REGISTRATION DEADLINE

Pack up, and gather friends and family for an adventurous weekend at Scott Lake Sept. 8-9. Enjoy a campfire and S’mores with an outdoor movie, “The Goonies.” Wake up to breakfast followed by canoeing and a scavenger hunt. People can bring their own camping gear or rent it from Outdoor Recreation. Registration deadline is Sept. 5.

ARCHERY CLINIC 101 REGISTRATION DEADLINE

Learn the basics of archery Sept. 12 with Outdoor Recreation. Staff will teach correct stance, proper use of recurve bow or compound bow, and proper shooting techniques. Bows, arrows and instruction provided. Registration deadline is Sept. 10.

FIRST FRIDAY—SPECIAL DATE

Celebrate Hispanic Heritage Sept. 14 at Zeppelins Food & Drinks First Friday Hispanic Heritage Celebration. Party starts at 3 p.m. All food is free. All attendees will have a chance to win free giveaways ... Razer Gaming Bundle, FitBit Alta and Wireless Headphones. First Fridays are free and open to all. SEPT. 15

PBA PROFESSIONALS TO TEACH BOWLING CLINIC

PBA professionals will be on hand to help people with their bowling game and provide general tips Sept. 15 at the Stars & Strikes Bowling Center during the Bowling Revolutions Clinic. The youth clinic will take place from 9 a.m. to noon and the adult training will be from 2-5 p.m. From 1-2 p.m., the professionals will give a physical game presentation. TEXAS HOLD’EM

The Scott Event Center will host a Texas Hold’em Tournament Sept. 15. Enjoy a pregame social at 5 p.m. with assorted hors d’oeuvres and drink specials, followed by tournament play at 6 p.m. Free entry to the first 10 Airmen to register. POW/MIA RECOGNITION CEREMONY

VFW Post 805 in O’Fallon will host the 27th Annual POW/MIA Recognition Ceremony Sept. 17 at 221 W. 1st St., O’Fallon. Each year, the Scott POW/MIA Council invites former prisoners-of-war and their family members living in the St. Louis metro and metro-east areas, along with leaders from both Scott Air Force Base and the local community, to honor those who were held as POWs as well as those who are still listed as missing. The ceremony begins at 10 a.m. and lasts approximately one hour. A complementary barbecue for guests begins at 11 a.m. Expected attendance at the event is approximately 300.

SEPT. 19

MOBILE DMV

Need to renew a license plate sticker, but can’t make it to the DMV? Catch the Illinois Department of Motor Vehicles mobile unit from 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sept. 19 at the Scott Event Center. The DMV Mobile Unit offers basic vehicle services, such as driver license renewals (including road tests), ID cards and vehicle registration, and is available for the SAFB community every third Wednesday of the month. The mobile DMV accepts all major credit/debit cards, check and money orders ... cash is not an accepted payment. For more details, call 256-5501.

SEPT. 22

CARDINALS MILITARY APPRECIATION DAY

Military Appreciation Day will take place Sept. 22 at Busch Stadium where the St. Louis Cardinals will take on the San Francisco Giants. Enjoy a free tailgate party prior to the game at 2 p.m. with beer, soda, food and entertainment. Event is open to all military, retirees, civilians and their family members. NIGHT GOLF 9-HOLE SCRAMBLE

Join the Cardinal Creek Golf Course Sept. 22 for 9-holes of night golf on an illuminated golf course. The scramble will be lighted only by the moon, glow sticks and glow-in the-dark golf balls. Cost is $70 per person and includes 9-holes, golf cart, night golf balls, glow necklaces, hors d’oeuvres and cash beverage cart on the course. Shotgun start is approximately 8 p.m. Beverages and hors d’oeuvres will be available following the tournament. Space is limited to the first 18 teams so sign up early. OCT. 6

BASE BOWLING CHAMPIONSHIP (DATE CHANGE)

The Stars and Strikes Bowling Center will host the 2018 Base Championship at 2 p.m. Oct. 6. All bowlers will bowl five qualifying games and the top bowlers will battle it out to determine the champion. The cost to enter is $60 and includes entry into scratch and handicap divisions, shoe rental and prizes. For more information, call 256-4054.

KIDS KLUB EVENTS

Kids Klub is back and will be offering some new events at some new places:

▪ Sept. 13: 5-7 p.m. Puttin’ Around Fun at Cardinal Creek Golf Course. Various golf fun ... open to all;

▪ Oct. 4: 5-7 p.m. Build with The Home Depot at Scott Event Center; and

▪ Nov. 8: 5-7 p.m. Arts & Crafts Carnival at Scott Event Center. Arts and craft fun for all.

BACK TO SCHOOL POOL HOURS OF OPERATION

Now that the kids are back in school, the Scott AFB Pool hours of operation through Sept. 3 are as follows:

▪ Recreational swim: 1-6 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays;

▪ Lap swim: 6-7 a.m. Monday-Friday and noon to 1 p.m. (no lap swim on Labor Day);

▪ Labor Day holiday hours (Sept. 3): Open for recreational swim 1-6 p.m.; and

▪ Pool parties: By reservation.

NIGHTINGALE DINING FACILITY CLOSED FOR RENOVATIONS

The Nightingale Dining Facility is closed until approximately Dec. 1 in preparation for the newest Quality of Life Initiative, Food 2.0. This major renovation will transform the way they serve meal card holders and the entire Scott community. Food 2.0 facilitates a “campus dining” approach similar to colleges and universities, while eliminating eligibility and rank limitations. The goal of this new initiative is to expand food options for meal card holders and the entire Scott AFB community.
