Friday, Dec. 27

Friday night hoops

Boys and girls are invited to play Friday night hoops. Open to two separate age groups: Pre-teens 9-12 years (6-9 p.m.) and teens 13-18 yrs (8-10 p.m.). Teams are co-ed. Bring friends to join. Friday night hoops is free and open to all eligible members of the Youth Center. Teens must still be in high school. For more details, call 618-256-5139.

Saturday, Dec. 28

R4R free bowling days

Stars & Strikes Bowling Center will host an R4R free bowling day from 2-4 p.m. Enjoy unlimited bowling and complimentary shoes. First come, first served. Limited to 24 lanes. More details, call 618-256-4054.

R4R (Recharge for Resiliency) events are intended for single Airmen (+1 guest) and deployed-affected, and their family. R4R events are for Air Force active duty/reservists returning from deployments, dependent-restricted assignments and single Airmen. Individuals who do not qualify for R4R, but have base access are eligible, but may pay a non-R4R fee.

Tuesday, Dec. 31

Rock-N-Bowl New Year’s 2020

Ring in the New Year with Stars & Strikes Bowling Center at their annual Rock-N-Bowl Family New Year’s Eve Party. Choose from two sessions: 2-5 p.m. or 6-9 p.m. Session includes three hours of bowling, shoe rental, unlimited soft drinks, party favors and buffet dinner.

R4R eligible: $85/lane; non-R4R Fee: $120/lane. Up to five people per lane (call for eligibility). Multiple lane groups welcome. Reservations with pre-payment are required by Sunday, Dec. 29. Spots fill up quickly, so sign up early. For more details, call 618-256-4054.

First Friday New Year

ACT prep

Students can learn test taking strategies, plus get important subject matter concepts with regard to the ACT. This free course begins at 7 p.m. on at the Youth Center. Open to youth ages 13-18. For more details, call 618-256-5139.

Wednesday, Jan. 15

Mobile DMV

The Illinois Department of Motor Vehicles mobile unit will be at the Scott Event Center from 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. The DMV Mobile Unit offers basic vehicle services, such as driver’s license renewals (including road tests), ID cards and vehicle registration, and is available for the SAFB community every third Wednesday of the month. The mobile DMV cannot process Real ID’s at this time. The mobile DMV accepts all major credit/debit cards, check and money orders, cash is not an accepted payment. Friday, Jan. 17

Teen Snacks & Splats

A teen art/paint night will take place from 7-9 p.m. Class is free and open to teens, ages 12-18. While enjoying snacks, all visual art activities focus on teaching the elements and principles of design, and encouraging the development of skills for a lifetime. For more details, call 618-256-5139.

Saturday, Jan. 18

Texas Hold’em

The Scott Event Center will host a Texas Hold’em tournament. Pre-game social at 5 p.m. with assorted hors d’oeuvres and drink specials, followed by tournament play at 6 p.m. Free entry to the first 10 Airmen to register. Fees: Members, $11 (play & eat); non-members, $17 (play and eat). Play limited to first 60 players. Registration required. Prizes awarded. Ice Skating Night

Teens & pre-teens ages 9-18, are invited to dinner and an evening skate at Steinberg Skating Rink in Forest Park. Buses depart the Youth Center at 4:30 p.m. with a stop for dinner prior to skating. Bus returns at approximately 9:30 p.m. Cost: $25 members, $30 non-members. Registration required. Steinberg Rink is a cash-only establishment. ATM available. For more details, call 618-256-5139.

Thursday, Feb. 6

Chalk couture DIY towel

Scott Event Center will host chalk couture DIY towel at 6:30 p.m. What is chalk couture? It’s a way of using chalk paste to create DIY home décor. DIY towel — includes four towels, instruction and supplies (sizes, colors, and designs vary). Plus, each participant gets a glass of wine or non-alcoholic alternative, and light snacks. Time: 6:30 p.m. Cost: $15/person. Registration required by Friday, Jan. 31. Limited to first 25 guests. Call SEC at 618-256-5501. Must have base access.

Looking for 2019 AF Athlete of the Year nominees

Each year the Air Force recognizes one male and one female as AF Athlete of the Year. To make nominations, contact Edward Norvell at the James Sports Center, 618-256-4524. Applications are due by Friday, Jan. 10, to be considered for the AF award.

Youth floor hockey

Youth interested in playing co-ed floor hockey can register at the Scott Youth Center all January. Program open to ages 5-13. All hockey equipment supplied. Fee: $62 (includes team jersey). A current physician approved physical, immunizations, and flu shot are required, and if applicable, an approved Inclusion Action Team Package for special needs.
