For the first time ever, Scott Air Force Base’s 375th Medical Group will be sending a team of four to Cannon AFB, N.M., to compete in the Emergency Medical Technician Rodeo from Aug. 24-27. Last year Cannon AFB hosted 20 teams.

This year they will host 24, which is the most teams to date. The EMT Rodeo emphasizes the importance of Air Force medics in combat by evaluating a medic’s capability to deliver emergency medical treatment in a high-stress environment.

The teams will compete in areas such as the command challenge, water extraction, motor vehicle extraction, and various medical scenarios. The 375th MDG has temporarily separated them from their medical colleagues to execute 21 training sessions. In addition to medical scenarios, they have engaged in trauma scenarios and rescues as well as academic testing. Staff Sgt. Orlando Navarro, Staff Sgt. James Stevens, Senior Airman Daniel Cobb and Senior Airman Chris Funn will be the four Airmen competing in the EMT Rodeo this year.

“The EMT Rodeo is a way to measure our EMTs’ pre-hospital skills both home station and deployed,” said Capt. Dawn Winter, 375th MDG group education and training flight commander. “Our guys are ready to rock.”
