Detectives believe the same suspects are involved in all of the thefts from the two golf courses, according to Shiloh Police Sgt. Jesse Phillips.
Phillips said officers received a report early Saturday about the latest theft from Yorktown, a par-3 golf course at 300 Goalby Drive.
Swansea Police Chief Steve Johnson said six golf carts were stolen by at least six suspects over the weekend from Clinton Hill Golf Course at 3700 Old Collinsville Road in Swansea.
Police were called when a resident spotted someone get out of a golf cart and unsuccessfully try to hook up a car trailer to the golf cart. The resident scared off the person and then police were called about 1 a.m. Saturday, Johnson said.
A homeowner’s video shows several golf carts buzzing down the street.
The six stolen carts were recovered but most of them were damaged, Johnson said. Four other carts were damaged at the golf course.
Officers recovered evidence that has been sent to the Illinois State Police crime lab, which will process the material.
Johnson said he “would strongly suggest” the suspects surrender now because he believes detectives will be able to identify them after the evidence is processed by crime lab technicians.
“If we have to come find them, it’s going to be a bit different issue than them turning themselves in,” Johnson added.
Phillips said “several” golf carts were stolen from Yorktown over the weekend but he couldn’t release the exact number. He said a number of them have been recovered.
No arrests have been made in the thefts.
Anyone with information about the thefts is asked to call the Shiloh Police Department at 618-632-9047 and ask for Phillips or the Swansea Police Department at 618-233-8114.
Yorktown is owned by the village of Shiloh and Clinton Hill is operated by Walters Golf Management. Representatives from the golf courses could not be reached for comment.
