An Alton native and former TV reporter has been charged with possession of illegal drugs.
Jeffrey Small was a reporter for KSDK for nine years before he became a spokesman for the city of Ferguson, Missouri. Now, he’s facing felony charges of possession of methamphetamine and misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia, according to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch.
Small, who now lives in St. Louis, was stopped for a malfunctioning headlight, but police said he had active warrants in multiple jurisdictions. In the process of being arrested, police said they found a bag with “a crystal-like substance” and two glass pipes, among other items.
Small served as the Ferguson city spokesman during the protests following the death of Michael Brown while employed by E’Little Media Group, which held a contract with Ferguson. Prior to that, he was a reporter for KSDK Channel 5 after working at stations in Louisiana, Texas and Mississippi, and holds a bachelor’s degree from Jackson State University. But Small’s contract and contracts for at least two other reporters were not renewed in 2012, according to the Post-Dispatch.
