Coroner releases ID of Belleville man found shot to death in Washington Park

Police were investigating a homicide after a man’s body was found in a parking lot early Monday morning in Washington Park.

The body was found at about 2 a.m. Monday in the parking lot of The China House restaurant in the 1400 block of Kingshighway in Washington Park, said St. Clair County Coroner Calvin Dye Sr. Police received a call for a shooting and discovered the body.

The man who died was identified Monday as 36-year-old Tyress Ivory, of Belleville. He was pronounced dead at 3 a.m. Monday from one gunshot wound to the abdomen.

Crime scene tape was strung up around the parking lot and a nearby alley and it appeared investigators had also taped off some areas of surrounding houses.
