Major Case Squad still searching for suspect in Belleville teen's shooting death

The Major Case Squad continued to search Wednesday for a suspect or motive in the fatal shooting of a Belleville teen.

Cole Wierciszewski, 18, arrived at Memorial Hospital in Belleville about 5:17 p.m. Monday with a gunshot wound to the chest. He died about a half hour later, and the Major Case Squad was activated to investigate his death.

In a press release, Capt. Bruce Fleshren, deputy commander of the Major Case Squad, said they have interviewed several friends and associates in the investigation, but "at this time a definitive motive or suspect has not been developed."

According to police, a friend was the one who found Wierciszewski at 141 Paulette Drive and drove him to the hospital.

"We are still looking for any associates of the victim who may have knowledge of Cole Wierciszewski’s murder," Fleshren said in a statement on Tuesday.

Fleshren said he could not speculate as to a motive or how many people may have been involved.

The Major Case Squad asked anyone with information of Wierciszewski's death to call 618-825- 5204.
