Two St. Louis men charged with wheel theft in Collinsville

Two men have been charged with stealing wheels from a Collinsville auto dealership last month.

Laura Buick GMC on Bluff Road reported on April 14 that someone had stolen rims and tires from two GMC Yukon Denali sport utility vehicles, which were valued in excess of $3,000. In fact, according to Lt. Brett Boerm of the Collinsville Police Department, the final cost might be as high as $9,000.

The theft occurred between the hours of 2:30 and 3:15 a.m., according to surveillance video at the dealership and at an adjacent business.

Now, Collinsville Police announced that they have charged two men from St. Louis with the theft, and believe they may be suspects in similar thefts.

Millard S. Carpenter, 51, and Marvin L. Young, 56, both of St. Louis, are each charged with two Class 2 felonies of “offenses related to motor vehicles.” But Boerm said there are similar thefts in other venues that may lead to additional charges; Carpenter and Young are suspects in thefts in Glen Carbon, Columbia, Highland and several municipalities in Missouri.

The cases are set before Madison County Circuit Judge Richard Tognarelli and Associate Judge Neil Schroeder respectively. Bail in each case was set at $100,000. Neither man is currently in custody, so anyone with information on their whereabouts is asked to contact Collinsville Police Det. Keith Jackson at 344-2131, ext. 5291.
