Belleville man charged with aggravated drunken driving after crash
A Belleville man faces aggravated driving under the influence charges after a single car collision left his passenger with a broken ankle and lacerated liver.
Jerrod J. Hawkins, 22, drove a 2001 Chevrolet Cavalier on North Belt East in Belleville early Sunday morning while under the influence of alcohol, according to the charges. Hawkins was involved in a one-car accident that injured his passenger Michael Baechle.
St. Clair County State’s Attorney Brendan Kelly issued the charges on Monday.
Hawkins’ bail was set at $35,000. The case was investigated by Belleville police.
Aggravated driving under the influence is a Class 4 felony.
