Boyfriend accused of beating and choking pregnant woman in Caseyville

A Caseyville man was in the St. Clair County Jail on Wednesday morning on charges he beat and choked his pregnant girlfriend at their home.

Police were called to the 1300 block of South Clinton Street in Caseyville at 2 a.m. Monday for a fight. St. Clair County Sheriff’s deputies arrested Kyle P. Callahan, 32, and he was charged with aggravated battery of a pregnant woman and domestic battery, according to a news release from the St. Clair County Sheriff’s Office.

Ellsalee Ruggies, 33, is more than than 8 months pregnant and police say Callahan is her live-in boyfriend. Police said she declined medical treatment after the altercation.

Callahan was arrested without incident, deputies said. He was being held Wednesday on $45,000 bail.
