Woman says man sexually assaulted her at home near Belleville

A 28-year-old East St. Louis man is charged with sexually assaulting a woman he knows.

Police say Bobby Haas was arrested Friday, hours after the woman reported the incident.

The woman had facial injuries when deputies arrived at a residence on Melbourne Drive near Belleville at about 10:40 a.m. Friday, according to Capt. Bruce Fleshren, of the St. Clair County Sheriff’s Department.

She told police Haas had sexually assaulted her after they had an argument about their relationship, and Haas punched her in the face.

Haas told the police she had accidentally struck him in the face with a broomstick. Haas had facial injuries visible in his booking photo.

The woman was taken to Memorial Hospital, where she was examined, treated and released.

Haas faces charges of sexual assault and domestic abuse. He remained in custody at the St. Clair County jail on a $80,000 bail on Monday morning.
