Police investigate after East St. Louis man is shot in his head and leg
A 34-year-old East St. Louis man was shot in the head on the 400 block of North 27th Street early Friday morning. Police do not have a suspect nor a motive in the shooting.
The victim, who was not identified, was taken to a local hospital in critical condition.
East St. Louis Police Chief Jerry Simon said the man also was shot in the leg. Police found seven shell casings at the scene, Simon said, but no weapon was found.
Simon said a call reporting the shooting came in to the police department at 1:35 a.m. “in reference to an accident.”
“When police officers arrived on scene they saw that a vehicle had driven into some trees off the road,” Simon said. “As they approached the vehicle, the police officers could see a black male in the driver’s seat. He had been shot and was unresponsive.”
Med Star ambulance transported the unidentified victim to the hospital. Simon said the victim was in critical condition at last check.
