Madison County judge gives man maximum penalty for 2018 Granite City stabbing

A 55-year-old man has been sentenced to 10 years in the Illinois Department of Corrections for the stabbing of another man in Granite City last September.

Madison County Circuit Judge Kyle Napp gave Hubert D. Hill, 55, the maximum prison sentence for the crime on Tuesday.

According to the State’s Attorney Tom Gibbons’ office, Hill stabbed 47-year-old Bryan B. Garrison in the 2200 block of Grand Avenue with a knife, which he dropped in a nearby alley. Garrison was transported to St. Louis University Hospital for treatment and survived the stabbing.

A jury found Hill guilty of the aggravated battery after just 45 minutes of deliberation on Aug. 21. Witnesses to the stabbing testified at the trial and contributed cell phone footage of the crime.
