Major Case Squad investigating homicide in Edwardsville
The Major Case Squad of Greater St. Louis has been activated to investigate a suspected homicide in Edwardsville.
At 7:08 a.m. on Tuesday, the Edwardsville Police Department was notified of an unresponsive person lying in the area of Poag Road near Illinois 111, a news release from the department stated.
Upon arrival, officers discovered the body of Scott David Brown, 43, of St. Loius, who police said was pronounced dead on the scene. The department made the decision to activate the Major Case Squad, which investigates homicides, as foul play was suspected.
According to a news release from Capt. David Vucich of the Madison County Sheriff’s Department, Brown was known to frequent the Collinsville, Edwardsville and Caseyville areas. He used the local bus lines for transportation.
According to the release, over 27 investigators from different agencies are participating in the investigation and are looking at numerous leads.
The department said in the release it would not release any further information about the cause or manner of death, the past history of Brown or any evidence, but that additional information will be made available “in the near future.”
