Belleville man charged after police say he shot into ex-girlfriend’s car in Swansea
A Belleville man has been charged following a shooting in Swansea on Sunday.
The next day, the St. Clair County State’s Attorney’s Office charged Scott E. Rodgers, 48, with two counts of aggravated discharge of a firearm.
In a news release, the Swansea Police Department said it responded to the area of Llewellyn Road and Ambrose Terrace Drive on Sunday evening in reference to multiple shots fired.
The victim of the shooting reported to police that her ex-boyfriend, Rodgers, fired a gun at her vehicle, striking it twice. She said Rodgers had fled to a friend’s house nearby and told police he was still armed and dangerous.
A Swansea police officer went to Rodgers’ friend’s house and found his car parked in the driveway with the lights on and the motor running, the release stated. When the officer approached the vehicle, he saw Rodgers standing near the front door of the home with a gun in his hand. When Rodgers saw the officer, he put the gun inside the house.
The officer arrested Rodgers without incident while a second Swansea police officer and a Belleville police officer responded to assist, the release stated. The gun was retrieved from inside the home.
Rodgers was taken to the St. Clair County Jail and placed on investigative hold. Once Illinois State Police Crime Scene Investigator’s were able to do a forensic search of the victim’s car and multiple items of evidence were located, the state’s attorney’s office charged Rodgers.
Judge Jeffrey Watson set Rodgers’ bond at $100,000.
