Police investigating after body is found in East St. Louis middle school parking lot

The body of a 13-year-old was discovered in the parking lot of Mason-Clark Middle School on Sunday morning and is being investigated as a homicide.

The victim was identified as Michael A. Moore, East St. Louis, by St. Clair County Coroner Calvin Dye. The case is being jointly investigated by East St. Louis police and the Illinois State Police.

“He was pronounced at the scene by my office staff today at 8:51 a.m.,” Dye said.

ISP Master Sgt. Elbert Jennings said East St. Louis police were dispatched to the junior high school parking lot after the department received a call at 7:55 a.m.

Jennings said police are in the early stages of a police investigation.

“We are investigating this incident as a homicide,” Jennings said in reference to a cause of death. “An autopsy is pending.”

“It appears it happened sometime during the night hours (on Saturday),” Jennings said.
