Collinsville police ask for public’s help in identifying armed robbery suspect
Police have asked for the public’s help in identifying an “armed and dangerous” man they say robbed a gas station in Collinsville on Sunday morning.
Collinsville Police Lt. Gary Scaggs said Monday that officers were called to the 4-0-2 Quick Shop and Exxon gas station at 810 Morrison Ave. at 6:56 a.m. in reference to an armed robbery.
There, police were told that a man had entered the business, displayed a handgun and demanded money from the register, Scaggs said in a release. The store employee attempted to open the register, but was interrupted when the suspect smashed the keyboard before the drawer could open.
The employee tried to open a second register, but the suspect grabbed the cash machine from the counter and fled the store on foot, Scaggs said. He was last seen running northwest from the gas station toward South Clinton Street.
The suspect is described as a black man, approximately 5 feet and 8 inches tall to 6 feet tall, with a thin build, last seen wearing a dark-colored hooded sweatshirt, dark pants, black athletic shoes with white soles and white gloves.
Anyone with information about the incident, or who was in the area of South Morrison and South Clinton streets at the time of the incident, can contact Collinsville Police Detective Sgt. Kuechle at 618-344-2131 ext. 5138 or call Crimestoppers at 866-371-8477.
