Police suspect murder after Cahokia man is found dead behind wheel of his car
Police are in the early stages of a homicide investigation in Alorton.
Alexander L. Brags, 30, of Upper Cahokia Road in Cahokia, was found dead in a red Dodge Charger that was parked in a driveway in the 100 bock of North 50th Street.
He was identified by St. Clair County Coroner Calvin Dye, who said Brags was pronounced dead at the scene at 3:01 p.m.
Chief David Clark said Alorton Police received a call at 2:30 p.m. Monday saying a man had been shot.
“We went to the scene and found a 30-year old male inside of a car in the driveway,” Clark said.
Clark declined to say how Brags died, pending further investigation. He also would not discuss why Brags was at the Alorton address. Clark did say Brags is originally from Alorton but was residing in Cahokia.
“We are still gathering information. We are in the preliminary stages of our investigation. We do not currently have anyone in custody,” Clark said. “We would like some assistance from the public. If anyone knows anything, we want them to call the police.”
Clark called for assistance from Illinois State Police. He said Illinois State Police Agent Mike Lowery is the lead investigator on the case.
