Suspect fires handgun during Madison County Subway robbery
A gunman burst into a Subway restaurant in Godfrey and fired a shot during an armed robbery Thursday night but no injuries were reported.
The clerk ran to the back of the store when the suspect entered the sandwich shop at 5755 Godfrey Road, according to a news release from the Madison County Sheriff’s Office.
While the clerk was attempting to brace a door to a room that is only accessible to employees, the suspect attempted to kick it open but was unsuccessful, investigators said. The suspect subsequently discharged his pistol and his entry attempts failed.
The suspect described as a black male whose face was partially concealed with a hood or other type of garment. He was wearing red pants, a black coat and black shoes.
Deputies were called at about 8:40 p.m. and they unsuccessfully searched the area for the suspect who ran away from the restaurant. A sheriff’s office spokesman declined to comment on whether money was taken from the restaurant.
