Teenagers among those arrested after Swansea burglary that led to police chase

Three juveniles and two adults are in police custody following a residential burglary in Swansea, and a police chase which followed through East St. Louis and Cahokia.

Capt. Matt Jany of the Metro East Auto Theft Task Force said the events started with the residential burglary Sunday morning.

Two of the suspects took a vehicle stolen earlier in Madison County to Swansea, where they committed a residential burglary.

“A vehicle at the residence was stolen in the process,” Jany said.

Police pursued the stolen vehicle to 78th and Church Street in East St. Louis where the car carrying two of the suspects crashed.

Later, in Cahokia, police located the vehicle that was stolen in Swansea when the driver struck a police squad car. The four people inside of the vehicle jumped out. All of them, including three juveniles and an adult, were arrested.

In the course of their investigation, police arrested another adult from Cahokia.

Police would not say what, if anything, was stolen from the house in Swansea. The adults arrested have not been identified by police, pending charges.

Police are in the early stages of the investigation. No other details were available at this time.
