Major Case Squad activated after Cahokia teenager is killed in drive-by, police say

A 19-year-old man was found shot in Cahokia late Tuesday night.

Cahokia Police Chief David Landmann said Dexter Byrd was shot in the abdomen at 11:55 p.m. outside of his residence on the 300 block of Range Lane. Byrd was taken to an area hospital where he later died, Landmann said.

He was found laying in the front yard of his home.

“It appears to be a drive-by shooting,” Landmann said.

He confirmed the Major Case Squad of Greater St. Louis has been activated. No further details were available.
