Fight between woman’s boyfriend and her ex results in shooting near Belleville

A 27-year-old man was hospitalized Tuesday following a shooting in the Ogles neighborhood of unincorporated Belleville, police say.

The St. Clair County Sheriff’s Department and Belleville Police Department both responded to a home at 14 Briarwood Drive at 11:04 a.m.

There, they found the 27-year-old man with a non-life-threatening gunshot wound to the shoulder, St. Clair County Sheriff’s Capt. Bruce Fleshren said. The man was being treated at a local hospital on Tuesday afternoon.

A 25-year-old man was taken into police custody at the scene.

According to Fleshren, the incident was a result of a domestic dispute between the current boyfriend and a former boyfriend of a woman they both dated.

No others were injured in the shooting, and police believe there are no other suspects, Fleshren said.

“This was not a random incident,” Fleshren said through a statement. “No names will be released until charges are filed, as the investigation is just beginning.”
