Call for attempted burglary leads Swansea police to find nearby ‘ransacked’ home
Swansea police are warning residents to be on alert after being called to investigate two recent burglaries in the same neighborhood.
At 6:40 a.m. Wednesday, police received a report of a residential burglary in the 40 block of Thrush Lane, an email to Swansea residents from the department said.
Upon investigation, police determined that the attempted break-in happened between 5 p.m. Tuesday and 1:30 a.m. Wednesday. According to police, a resident in the house woke up to a cold draft in the home and discovered a window had been broken and the blinds had been drawn.
Police said nothing appeared to be missing form the home and there was no evidence entry had been made.
During a canvass of the neighborhood after the reported incident, a Swansea police officer discovered that a home in the 400 block of Homestead Avenue also had been burglarized. There, the back door was shattered to gain entry.
In the email, police said the house, which was unoccupied, had been “ransacked” and that jewelry had been stolen. Police did not know what time that burglary occurred.
Officers processed both houses for evidence, police said.
“If you live in the (area) please check your security cameras and let us know if you see anything suspicious,” police said. “Also, watch out for your neighbors, call us if you see something and (it’s) always a good idea to have an alarm on your residence for peace of mind. This area rarely has these incidents, but better safe than sorry.”
