Almost a dozen cars vandalized with homophobic slurs in Troy, police say

Around a dozen cars in Troy were randomly vandalized with offensive words and images, including homophobic slurs, over the weekend, police have said.

The vandalization happened in the northeast part of town near Riggin Road, Troy police told the Edwardsville Intelligencer. The suspects used removable car paint to tag the vehicles’ windows with the slurs, vulgar pictures and comments mocking the makes of the cars.

According to KMOV 4, the vandalization spree happened Sunday night.

Police told the Intelligencer that they believe the suspects are juveniles, based on what was written on the cars. No one has been taken into custody. The department is working with residents who belong to its camera registry program to use any surveillance camera footage to search for evidence.

Anyone with information regarding the incident can call the Troy Police Department at 618-667-6731.
