Trailer with sets and costumes stolen from Belleville dance studio, owner says
The owner of Adams School of Dance in Belleville says a trailer containing rehearsal sets, costumes and supplies was stolen from her studio over the weekend.
Nanette Galvin says that when she showed up to the building at 1 Grove Ave. for rehearsal on Monday morning, she noticed the trailer that usually sits in the parking lot beside the studio was gone.
“I know it was there Saturday when we had class, so I’m not sure if it happened Saturday or Sunday night,” she said.
Galvin said she called Belleville police right away to report the theft of the silver 2013 Patriot trailer. As of Tuesday morning, police had not told her of any suspects in custody, she said.
Belleville police could not be reached for comment.
When Galvin and her husband bought the 7-foot by 12-foot trailer for about $3,000 a few years ago. It contained hand-built pieces of recital sets from the 2019 dance competition, costumes, assorted greenery, lumber and supplies for building the sets, including a motor blower and hand trucks.
“Thank goodness it’s our sets from last year and not what we need next weekend for competition,” Galvin said. “It’s just stuff that we keep on hand and use for recital. We try to re-purpose things, of course.”
Adams School of Dance was not equipped with surveillance cameras, nor was a neighboring business. Galvin said she hopes businesses at a stoplight near the studio may have footage, or that there will be stoplight cameras with pictures of who drove off with her trailer.
