Swansea police warn of attempted abduction in Castle Acres subdivision

Swansea police warned residents of an attempted abduction in the Castle Acres subdivision on Tuesday.

At 4:08 p.m. in the 200 block of Fournie Drive, a juvenile reported to police that a white panel van had followed her home. A man jumped out of the van and chased her into her home, a news release from the Swansea Police Department stated.

The girl made it home safely and the suspect fled on foot.

In the release, police said the suspect is a black man who was wearing a hat, dark shirt, dark pants and white shoes. The driver of the van was described as a white man with gray hair. The van is as a white panel van with no windows with an unknown license plate.

Swansea Police Chief Steve Johnson reminded residents to stay vigilant by staying aware of their surroundings whenever they walk to and from their cars, to stay in well-lit areas if possible and to walk in groups if possible.

“Look around at your environment, focus on what’s going on around you and look for people who are doing something out of the ordinary,” he said.

The incident is under investigation by Swansea police. Anyone with information or who saw a vehicle or people matching the descriptions can contact the Swansea Police Department at 618-233-8114.
