Deputies search for suspects in alleged armed robbery of teen near Belleville East
The St. Clair County Sheriff’s Department is investigating after a juvenile told police he was robbed at gunpoint at a gas station near Belleville.
Around 3 p.m. on Tuesday, the department was called to the reported armed robbery in the 1100 block of Carlyle Avenue near the BP gas station, a news release from Capt. Bruce Fleshren stated.
A 17-year-old male told officers that he had been riding in a car with three others he knew through mutual acquaintances. One of them pointed a gun at the teen and demanded his cell phone and other property, Fleshren said.
The three suspects let the teenager out of the car unharmed on Carlyle Avenue, where he was able to flag down a Belleville police officer for assistance, Fleshren said.
Fleshren said investigators do not believe the act was random, and that they are following leads on the identities.
The vehicle in which the alleged crime occurred is a dark-colored Jeep Cherokee with the Illinois license plate 1647250.
