Police nab two adults, two teens in attempted armed robbery in Madison County
Two adults and two juveniles are in police custody in connection with an alleged armed robbery attempt in Hartford Park late Sunday night.
Hartford Police Chief Brandon Flanigan said through a statement Wednesday that Nathan L. Rodgers, of Hartford, and Darren J. Spruill, of East Alton, were charged with attempted armed robbery by the Madison County State’s Attorney’s office.
The charges follow an incident in which a Hartford police sergeant was dispatched to a reported traffic crash and fight, Flanigan said.
According to Flanigan, police found that the four occupants of one of the cars involved in the crash had lured the occupants of the other into the park with the intent to rob them. Each of the four suspects was arrested at the scene.
Rodgers and Spruill remain in Madison County Jail with bond set at $100,000 each.
Two other suspects, whose names were not released because of their age, were transported to the Madison County Juvenile Detention Center, Flanigan said.
Flanigan said that the Wood River Police Department allowed the officers of the neighboring communities to use their jail to hold the suspects temporarily, and that officers from the department also assisted in transport and booking of the suspects.
“We have an amazing working relationship with the surrounding police agencies and our department will always be indebted to them,” Flanigan said.
