St. Louis duo charged following carjacking of Collinsville Uber and Lyft driver
A St. Louis man and woman have been charged in connection with the carjacking of an Uber and Lyft driver in Collinsville on Sunday.
On Monday, the Madison County State’s Attorney’s Office charged Kaleb R. Holmes, 18, and Alexis N. Brown, 23, both of St. Louis, each with one count of aggravated vehicular hijacking, one count of armed robbery and one count of unlawful possession of a stolen firearm. Associate Judge Ronald Slemer set each of their bond at $150,000.
At 4:58 a.m. on Sunday, Collinsville police responded to a report of an armed robbery and carjacking on Pheasant Glen in the Woodland Trails Community, a news release from Collinsville Detective Sgt. Mark Kuechle said Tuesday.
The victim, a 78-year-old man, told police he had just finished his shift as an Uber and Lyft driver in St. Louis and was returning home. He was on the porch when he was confronted by two people armed with handguns who demanded his wallet, phone and car keys, according to police.
The suspects then fled in the man’s 2017 Hyundai. Washington Park police, having heard radio broadcast of the crime on the Illinois State Police Emergency channel, spotted the car westbound on Interstate 55/70 near Illinois 203 about 10 minutes later.
Holmes and Brown were taken into custody without incident, the release stated. The victim’s property was recovered along with two handguns.
Both Holmes and Brown remained in police custody at Madison County Jail on Tuesday, police said.
“The Collinsville Police Department extends our appreciation to the Washington Park Police Department and other assisting agencies for their quick action in capturing htese two dangerous individuals and bringing this situation to a safe resolution,” Kuechle said in the release.
