East St. Louis police investigating shooting death of 30-year-old man

East St. Louis Police are looking for the person who shot and killed a 30-year-old East St. Louis man early Wednesday morning.

The victim was identified by St. Clair County Coroner Calvin Dye Sr. as Reme J. Ferguson, of the 1700 block of Bond Avenue. Dye said Ferguson was pronounced dead at the scene at 1:29 a.m.

Police have not identified any suspects in this shooting and have no known motive, Illinois State Police Master Sgt. Elbert Jennings said. The case is being jointly investigated by East St. Louis police and Illinois State Police.

East St. Louis police received a call reporting shots fired at 1:03 a.m., said East St. Louis Police Sgt. Cantrell Patterson.

“When officers arrived at the reported address, they found a black male laying on the ground with multiple gunshot wounds to his body,” Patterson said.

Jennings said police are asking anyone in the public who may have any information to help solve this killing to call police.
