One man in custody following a fight and shooting at East St. Louis nightclub

One man was arrested following a fight at an East St. Louis night club that led to bystander being shot in his leg.

East St. Louis police were dispatched to Da Beno Night Club, 6800 State Street, at 2:34 a.m. Saturday in reference to someone being shot.

East St. Louis Police Sgt. Cantrell Patterson said police located a victim at the rear of the building. The man had sustained a bullet wound to his leg.

The victim’s name has not been released and his condition was not immediately available.

“The victim ... said he was in the front of the club when an unknown subject started to shoot at the crowd of people,” Patterson said.

Patterson confirmed there was a large crowd outside on the parking lot when police arrived.

“Police were able to arrest the man we believed to be the shooter,” Patterson said.

Patterson said there was a fight at Club De Beno between the victim’s friends and another group of people. The victim was shot as he was leaving the scene.

Patterson would not talk about what, if any evidence police located that was connected to the shooting.

The owner of the business could not be reached for comment.
