East St. Louis police investigating shooting that reportedly happened near nightclub

An unidentified man told East St. Louis Police he was shot early Sunday while sitting in the rear of a car parked across the street from a nightclub, but police said he was not very cooperative beyond that.

“We dispatched officers to the hospital after we learned Belleville police were holding a suspect who ran from the hospital after he dropped the victim off,” East. Louis Police Sgt. Cantrell Patterson said Monday.

At the hospital, “ an officer talked to the victim, who we are not identifying, told the responding officer he was a passenger in the rear of a car that was parked across the street from a night club on State street,” Patterson said.

The victim was about to leave the Wall to Wall Club in the 3800 block of State Street when he heard gunshots and realized he was shot, Patterson said.

The victim went to Memorial Hospital in Belleville in a private vehicle, but he told police he didn’t know who drove the car.

“The victim was not very cooperative,” Patterson said.

The victim has a bullet wound to his back area, Patterson said. No arrests have been made.

Police are investigating the shooting incident. If you have any information about this shooting, call the East St. Louis Police Department at 482-6767.
