Arson charges filed against Macoupin County man

Charges have been filed against a Macoupin County man law enforcement officials believe is responsible for a rash of arson fires.

The Macoupin County State’s Attorney office charged Christopher M. Walker with four counts of aggravated arson, six counts of a rson and one count of criminal damage to property. Walker is being held at the Macoupin County jail without bond.

At 6:06 p.m. Tuesday, sheriff’s deputies were notified of a fire at an abandoned house south of Carlinville on Illinois 4 next to Lake Williamson, a release stated. The Carlinville Fire District and the fire marshal were called to the scene as well.

There, officials identified Walker as a suspect and and made the arrest.

The OSFM, Macoupin County Sheriff’s Office, Illinois State Police, Illinois Secretary of State Police, Carlinville Police and Macoupin County Sheriff’s Department were involved in the investigation.

“All of the agencies involved in this investigation did a great job working together, which lead to the arrest of this suspect,” said Macoupin County Sheriff Shawn Kahl.
