Homeless man charged with burglary after being nabbed by Swansea homeowner

A homeless man caught inside a Swansea residence in the 1600 block of Kinsella Ave. is in police custody, charged with residential burglary and criminal trespassing.

The St. Clair County States Attorney’s office arrested and charged Montez O. Pearson, 34, after the son of the homeowner managed to detain him. Bail was set at $30,000.

The incident happened April 6. According to information released by the Swansea Police Department, police received a call while the the alleged crime was in progress.

The homeowner’s son who discovered Pearson standing in their hallway, police said. The son, whose age has not been released, first yelled for help, then managed to prevent the the intruder from leaving until officers arrived.

Pearson was arrested and charged last Tuesday by the St. Clair County state’s Attorney’s office for breaking into the home.
