Man charged with impersonating police officer after displaying a BB gun in Shiloh
A Florissant, Missouri man faces multiple charges after allegedly pretending to be a police officer in Shiloh on Monday.
Shawn E. Brown, 44, was charged with impersonating a police officer, aggravated assault and reckless driving on Wednesday in St. Clair County Court, a news release from the Shiloh Police Department stated.
According to the release, Brown was in a Charter Spectrum store at 3950 Green Mount Crossing Drive around 5 p.m. when an off-duty police officer who was also there saw him yell at employees after he was reminded to keep social distancing measures recommended since the coronavirus pandemic.
The off-duty officer saw Brown display what appeared to be a firearm, but was later identified to be a BB gun, according to the release. The officer asked Brown to leave the store.
Brown then got into his car and sped toward the front door of the store, stopping the vehicle on the sidewalk.
The off-duty officer and other Shiloh police officers took Brown into custody, the release stated. During his arrest, he told police he was a federal law enforcement officer, but upon investigation, that proved to be false.
Brown remained in the St. Clair County Jail on Wednesday with a bond of $50,000.
