Suspect taken into custody shortly after early-morning shooting in Cahokia
A 26-year old man is in the custody of Cahokia Police for questioning following an early morning shooting that left another man in an area hospital.
Neither the victim of the suspect are being identified by police, pending ongoing investigation, but Cahokia Police Capt. Dennis Plew said the two knew each other.
Plew said the victim, a 47-year-old male, was conscious when he was taken from the scene in an ambulance but, at last report, was in serious condition.
The victim was shot multiple times just before 6:30 a.m. and was found by police laying in a front yard on Westwood Drive in the Bridgedale subdivision in Cahokia, Plew said.
A source led police to the suspect, who surrendered without incident following a brief standoff. Police are currently questioning him, Plew confirmed.
Plew said less than two hours passed between the shooting and the arrest of the suspect. He said police have not yes established a motive for the shooting.
