Southwestern Illinois police chief issues statement on death of George Floyd

O’Fallon Police Chief Eric Van Hook issued a statement Thursday afternoon regarding the death of George Floyd in Minnesota on Monday.

In it, Van Hook condemned the actions of the four Minneapolis Police Department officers who were fired in connection with the incident, and assured the public that O’Fallon police would not tolerate abuse or negligence.

The U.S. attorney in the Minnesota District said at a press conference Thursday that her office is cooperating with the FBI in an ongoing investigation into the death of Floyd, which has sparked unrest in Minneapolis and other cities across the country.
