14-year-old killed, toddler wounded in shooting at East St. Louis housing complex

A 14-year-old boy was killed while another teen and a toddler were were injured during a shooting in East St. Louis Tuesday night.

St. Clair County Coroner Calvin Dye Sr. identified the deceased teen as Kyelonthae Stidimire, who lived in the John DeShields Housing complex in East St. Louis. Dye said Stidimire was pronounced at the scene at 10:59 p.m.

East St. Louis Police Sgt. Cantrell Patterson said officers were dispatched to the housing complex at 10:16 p.m. to investigate a report of two men being shot.

Stidimire’s body was found in the rear of Building 17. A second teenage boy, 16, was shot and taken to an area hospital, while the 3-year-old girl was transported to a St. Louis hospital for treatment. Both were treated for their wounds and released.

Patterson did not have further information on their conditions. Because of where the victims were found, it’s not clear the shootings are related, he said.

Illinois State Police are assisting in the investigation.
