Wood River man charged with exploitation, sexual assault of 8-year-old girl

A Wood River man has been charged in connection with the sexual assault and exploitation of an 8-year-old girl.

Jeffrey L. Ramsey, 31, was charged with one count of predatory criminal sexual assault and one count of sexual exploitation of a child in Madison County Court on June 26, a news release from State’s Attorney Tom Gibbons’ Office said.

According to the release, the incident happened on June 12 and was reported shortly after. Following an investigation by the Wood River Police Department and detailed interviews by the Madison Child Advocacy Center, charges were filed.

Ramsey remained in Madison County Jail on Tuesday on a $500,000 bond. If convicted of the crimes, he faces a maximum penalty of 60 years served at 85% in the Illinois Department of Corrections. Both counts would also require him to register as a lifetime child sex offender.
