Fairview Heights police on Monday released surveillance photos of a suspect accused of robbing a gas station at gunpoint over the weekend.

Lt. Mike Houget said investigators are working leads in the case, but an arrest doesn’t seem imminent. They’re hopeful someone will recognize the robber, and it will give police the clues they need to solve the case.

In one of the photos, the alleged robber can be seen holding a handgun in his right hand.

The suspect, described as a black male in his mid 20s who is about 5-foot-7 with a slim build, walked into the Circle K store at 10425 Lincoln Highway at 2:34 a.m. Saturday. He displayed a pistol and demanded money and cigarettes from the clerk before fleeing on foot toward the north.

The robber was wearing a black-and-white striped beanie cap and a pair of black or dark shorts. He was wearing a white, long-sleeved shirt over a black and white striped T-shirt.

Officers from the Fairview Heights and Caseyville police departments and the Illinois State Police K-9 unit searched for the robber but were unable to locate him.

Anyone with information about the suspect is asked to call the Fairview Heights Police Department at 618-489-2130.
