Police investigate shooting death of East St. Louis businessman

A business owner was shot and killed in East St. Louis Thursday afternoon.

St. Clair County Coroner Calvin Dye Sr. identified the man as William Porter Jr., 41.

East St. Louis Police Sgt. Cantrell Patterson said the shooting happened at G&P Confectionery, 1332 Bond Avenue, at 4:30 p.m.

Patterson said a motive for the shooting is still under investigation.

Illinois State Police were called in to assist with the investigation,” he said. “They have taken the lead on the investigation at this point.”

Porter’s shooting death is the 15th in East St. Louis this year.
