Man accused of beating infant at Caseyville motel is charged with aggravated battery

An East St. Louis man faces multiple felonies after police say he beat an infant who is less than a year old and sent the child to the hospital in April.

Nevonte Ivory, 25, was taken into custody Monday after the Metro East Auto Theft Task Force made a traffic stop and Ivory was in the car, Caseyville Police Det. Danny Allison said. He was charged Wednesday with aggravated battery of a child and reckless conduct causing great bodily harm.

Ivory was a suspect in the investigation by Caseyville police, which stemmed from an incident in April when an infant was brought to an O’Fallon hospital with a severe injury, a news release from the department stated.

According to Allison, O’Fallon police began the investigation and then turned it over to Caseyville when it was determined the crime occurred at a motel in Caseyville.

Ivory’s bond was set at $100,000. He remained in St. Clair County Jail on Wednesday afternoon.
