Illinois State Police investigate officer-involved shooting in East St. Louis

Illinois State Police are investigating an officer-involved shooting at a local nightclub early Tuesday morning.

East St. Louis Police Sgt. Cantrell Patterson said two officers were dispatched to Club DaBeno, 6830 State St., at 2:23 a.m. after receiving a call that two subjects were there with weapons.

According to a statement from ISP, both officers saw a firearm in the hand of one of the occupants of a vehicle. After giving verbal commands, the two officers discharged their weapons, hitting one of two people inside the car.

The injured suspect was treated for the gunshot wound at an area hospital and released to police custody, according to state police. Neither officer was injured, the ISP release stated.

The owner of Club DaBeno could not be reached for comment.

East St. Louis City Manager Brooke Smith said she didn’t know enough about what happened to comment on the investigation or to what extent the city’s officers were involved.

The incident is the second shooting the ISP has been called on to investigate this week.

ISP and Centreville Police also are investigating a shooting that involved an off-duty Alorton officer early Saturday in the 200 block of Illinois 157.

According to a statement from the State Police, an off-duty officer from a neighboring department was working at Club Onyx when he saw two suspects firing assault rifles at an occupied vehicle on Illinois Route 157.

Alorton Police Chief Dave Clark confirmed Monday that the officer was a member of his department.

The off-duty officer fired his weapon in the direction of the two armed gunmen.

No other details have been released.
